IT׳S A PING PRIDE THING

The PING was born for colour, and we realised recently that this makes it the perfect canvas to fly the rainbow flag and help raise funds and respect for the LGBTQIA+ community.

YOU: THIS SOUNDS GREAT! BUT HOW WILL YOU ACTUALLY DO THIS?
US: We knew this would be the most pressing question. So here it is…

ECOHEADS Australia is proud to launch its ongoing commitment to proudly supporting Minus18, an Australian organisation working to change the lives of LGBTQIA+ youth by building social inclusion and advocating for an Australia where all young people are safe, empowered and surrounded by support. More on them again shortly.

We’re kicking things off with the PING Pride Edition – a limited version of a now cult colour bar favourite that bears the Pride rainbow flag, which we know has come to represent both the immense diversity and the unity of the LGBTQIA+ community. 

$2 from the sale of every PING Pride Edition will be donated to Minus18.

YOU: COOL! BUT WAIT, YOU SAID ‘ONGOING COMMITMENT’…
US: We did indeed. When The PING Pride Edition has sold out (you best be getting in quick!), we will continue to donate $2 from the sale of every PING to Minus18. 

YOU: WHY IS THIS ORGANISATION AND ITS WORK SO IMPORTANT TO ECOHEADS?
US: A few reasons actually, thanks for asking.

ECOHEADS has always vowed to stand with the industry wherever there’s a need (that’s why we work so damn hard to bring innovation to the salon space). The LGBTQIA+ community represents a major and integral part of the salon industry both here in Australia and all around the world, and we know it needs and deserves ongoing positive representation to break down discrimination and bullying, and build up respect and acceptance. So, we went searching for a way that we could tangibly contribute… 

Plus, Minus18 is a powerhouse for young people, and it’s building strong, empowered future generations… we’re about sustainability, and we think a sustainable world needs this now more than ever. 

YOU: THEY SOUND AWESOME… TELL ME MORE ABOUT WHAT THEY DO.
US: Here are some mind-bending facts for you first…

• 21% of Australian high school students identify as LGBTQIA+ and this number is growing around the world.
• 66% of Australian LGBTQIA+ youth experience bullying or harassment based upon their identity.
• 81% of LGBTIQ students believe their school doesn’t support them, and that their teachers aren’t doing enough to stop LGBTIQ bullying.

So, in a nutshell, Minus18 does this:
“Through a preventative model of mental health support, we tackle social isolation by creating fun-filled spaces where LGBTQIA+ young people belong and are celebrated. We transform communities through LGBTQIA+ training, resources and digital campaigns that enable others to champion inclusivity – no matter their location. Through our programs, we equip young people with the skills they need to be at the forefront of driving change – we’re empowering the next generation of LGBTQIA+ leaders!”
