Is P.O.D. made by ECOHEADS?

Yes, it’s an innovation developed under the ECOHEADS brand to extend in-salon care through a patented system.

Why was P.O.D created?

P.O.D defines a new category for the professional hairdressing industry. For the first time since 1904, basic basin and colour functionality has been reimagined and a new world of service and creativity has been unlocked. Cleansers & micro colour delivered and activated by clean water is now possible. Infused into the hair through the ECOHEADS Showerhead, P.O.D balances business, sustainability and wellness with unlimited creativity.

Where is P.O.D made?

The product is designed in Australia and manufactured in Italy.

How is P.O.D made?

The P.O.D System has 4 components – The Shield, The Prep, The Tone and The Sealer. Each has a different function, unique formulation and is sustainable by design. The preparation of The Prep & The Tone is based on a unique technology which allows the active ingredients to blend at the perfect temperature to obtain the final solid pod.

How does it work?

P.O.D is a simple system designed to transform your hair colour and care experience at the basin in 4 simple steps:
(1) The Shield – An alkaline to acid pH regulator designed to reduce the alkalinity of the hair
(2) The Prep – A mild cleansing pod to prime all hair types for a P.O.D colour, treatment or any chemical service by opening the cuticle layer and balancing porosity in a safe and healthy way
(3) The Tone – A micro colour pod delivered and activated by clean water
(4) The Sealer – A post-colour treatment that seals the cuticle. Designed with a rich Phyto complex that nourishes and reduces breakage, providing hydration with effortless detangling capabilities

How is P.O.D. different from traditional colour application methods?

Traditional treatments rely on manual application. P.O.D. infuses treatments through water flow, reducing product waste and enhancing consistency.

Is P.O.D. endorsed by professional stylists?

Yes, many leading colourists and educators endorse P.O.D. for its innovation, precision, and performance.

What comes in a P.O.D. kit?

The kit includes a P.O.D. unit, an adaptor for the Showerhead X, and a starter set of treatment pods.

How many uses do the pods provide?

Each pod is single-use and calibrated for one full treatment application, depending on hair length and density.

How could this system be used?

The possibilities are endless – you can use P.O.D for a colour refresh, blending highlights & balayage, toning highlights and to brighten your blondes. You can use P.O.D to fill lighter shades for a colour change or colour correction or to counteract unwanted tones.

How long does the P.O.D service take?

The average service takes between 10–12 minutes to shield, prep, tone and seal, saving up to 75% of the time spent on semi-permanent colour services, and lasts up to 6 washes.

Do I need to use an ECOHEADS Showerhead?

Yes, the P.O.D system relies on the unique innovation of the ECOHEADS Showerhead and adaptor to ionise the water and activate The Prep and The Tone.

Can I just use P.O.D in my normal Showerhead? Why do I need the Adaptor?

P.O.D will not work if used inside the standard ECOHEADS Showerhead without The Adaptor. The unique design of the basket allows the water to spin the pods and dissolve them efficiently.

What if my client’s hair has a lot of oil/product build-up and is very dirty?

If the client’s hair has a lot of build-up prior to a P.O.D service then we recommend you shampoo the hair prior to using The Prep to remove excessive build-up and oils.

NOTE: The Prep is a mild cleanser and the equivalent of 1 wash.

Will the colour deepen if left on for longer?

No, this is not a progressive colour and will not deepen if left on longer than the recommended processing
time - which makes it a perfect partner for toning and refreshing at the basin.

How is the tone removed?

The Tone lasts up to 6 washes but if it needs to be removed sooner, it can be removed by using any professional colour remover. Using higher pH products to open the cuticle and gently clean the hair will also help to remove unwanted pigment.

NOTE: The same rules apply around putting powder lightener over fresh pigment – it can expand the colour molecule inside the hair causing it to become brighter and harder to remove. We recommend alternative colour removal options that each hairdresser is already comfortable with.

For gentle, sheer removal – The Prep can be used to remove an overtone if it’s within the first 48hrs of colouring the hair with a pod tone.

What if my water pressure is low and my pod is taking longer than expected to dissolve?

If you find that your water pressure is still quite low, even after installing an ECOHEADS Showerhead and improving the flow - you can push a small hole through The Tone (a metal tail comb works) to speed up the dissolution process. This is only necessary if the colour pod (The Tone) is taking over 5 minutes to dissolve based on water pressure.

Does this replace my current colour line?

We are not looking to replace any other colour line, there are fantastic companies doing amazing things with colour. This is in addition and complimentary to any current colour, semi, demi or refresh tones on previously toned hair. The P.O.D System is friends with all brands and is the perfect partner to blend and implement alongside the things you already use in the salon.

Does P.O.D come with any special aftercare instructions or recommended hair care products?

No special aftercare instructions. We do recommend using a colour care shampoo & conditioner from a professional brand just like we would if you had any other colour service done.

Is it damaging to my hair?

Absolutely not. P.O.D is designed to colour your hair and provide outstanding shine, strength and manageability. It is pH balanced and boosted with lipophilic oils and amino acids to treat the hair while toning. In addition, P.O.D is free from damaging chemicals such as Ammonia, MEA, DEA, PPD, PDT and requires no developer. It truly is colour delivered and activated by clean water.

Is P.O.D safe to use during pregnancy or for individuals with health conditions?

We have not specifically tested P.O.D products for use during pregnancy and other health conditions, however we anticipate no issues as it can be safely used on human hair and does not contain any of the chemicals recommended for pregnant women to avoid. We do, however, recommend doing a patch test in such cases to lower risk, if any.

How often will I need to refresh my pod colour?

Fading depends on the client’s lifestyle such as frequency of hair washing as well as current level of porosity and hair health. Once hair has faded, you can apply another P.O.D service to further enhance and refresh the colour.

Can I colour my hair if I have sensitive skin?

We have not specifically tested P.O.D products for sensitive skin. However, we recommend checking the ingredients and doing a patch test before using on people with overly sensitive skin. Note the products are free from Ammonia, MEA, DEA, PPD, PDT and require no developer.

Can I swim or expose my hair to sunlight after P.O.D hair colour?

Like any hair colour product, we recommend avoiding moisture in the first 24hrs post your P.O.D treatment. P.O.D is designed to fade every time the hair is wet.

Is it possible to mix different shades of P.O.D tones to create custom colours?

Absolutely, you can personalise your colours. All pod tones are intermixable as long as one uses the knowledge of colour charts and the colour wheel theory. We recommend if you’re mixing two different pods together, put gloves on and squeeze the 2 shades together before using, or cut 2 shades in half to create 1 pod.

Can I use P.O.D colour on previously chemically treated or damaged hair?

Yes, it’s one of the safest colours available, but it’s important to consider hair porosity to prevent excessive tone absorption. This is why The Shield is the first step to balance porosity, especially before working on compromised or chemically treated hair. The P.O.D system also treats the hair during the colouring process.

Can I use P.O.D on chemically straightened or permed hair?

You can, P.O.D contains no ammonia or MEA therefore you will not create any damage to chemically treated hair. P.O.D is rich in lipophilic oils and amino acids that nurture and protect damaged hair.

Does P.O.D provide any options for customising colour intensity or vibrancy?

We have 6 vivids in our range, you can intermix vivids with other shades to create different intensities or vibrancy.

How does the colour pigment get deposited onto the hair?

The P.O.D System works in 4 simple steps:
(1) The Shield – balances out the porosity of the hair priming the hair for even colour uptake
(2) The Prep – an arginine-based solution that lifts the cuticle layer to prime the hair fibre for colour or treatments
(3) The Tone – Tone on tone colour delivered and activated by clean water. This is the colouring step that uses micro-colour molecules in a pod format. These small dye molecules, combined with the ionic water delivery from the showerhead allows the colour to cover the surface of the hair strand as well as get into tiny pockets of the lifted hair cuticle layer.
(4) The Sealer – A post-colour treatment designed to seal the cuticle.

Can I mix and match treatments?

Do P.O.D. treatments contain fragrance?
